Inspiration
Sanjay Nahar is a name of fame. He is an inspiring personality in this part of the world. He
works for the students in general and the Kashmiris in particular. He hails from a social
family. His uncle Shri Dhanraj Nahar was a social worker in post-Independence India, who
worked closely with eminent leaders like Yashwantrao Chavan, Bhausaheb Hire and
Keshvrao Jedhe. These great leaders used to visit late shri Nahar’s house very frequently.
Sanjay Nahar was born to his younger brother Kantilal Nahar. As a child, he used to listen
very carefully to these towering personalities. Of course he was not able to understand their
point of views, but he was sure that they were discussing the social problems of that area.
At his younger age, outspoken Sanjay made many friends and got involved in various
activities of different youth organizations. His inherent leadership qualities, his daring
attitude in spite of his wiry frame and his habit of reading books he was groomed in the
enthusiastic leadership position.
In his early days in Pune, there were some communal riots; Maharashtra around the
beginning of the ‘80s, Sanjay got to see the stark reality of human pain. Ethnically,
religiously, linguistically and culturally plural society is a unique feature of the democratic
India and it must be preserved through integration of communities and religious tolerance, he
was convinced.
Sanjay Nahar has become a man with a mission to work towards bonding with people
affected by communalism and violence.
Beginning
On 23 rd March 1984, Sanjay Nahar founded the organisation named Vande Mataram. This
social organization dedicated to the cause of national integration, along with a few
likeminded fellow young men. His birthday coincides with the Indian Independence. He
thought of making martyr’s day, an event to remember. The great freedom fighters of India,
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged by the British on March 23 1932 in Lahore
jail. Vande Mataram was inaugurated on this day in 1984.
